The Wilson Centre for Domestic Abuse Studies at Calgary Counselling Centre is the leading research and treatment centre in North America for those affected by abuse. Our innovative programs provide the highest level of treatment, to men, women and children who abuse or have been abused.

What sets The Wilson Centre apart is our proactive approach, our individualized treatment and our research. We seek the root causes of domestic abuse, so we can stop the cycle before it begins. People who go through our programs have among the lowest repeat offense rate in North America.

W. Brett Wilson is at the forefront in raising awareness and working to ending domestic abuse in our community – The Wilson Centre is named for Brett and his family’s generosity.

    • Treatment for Abusive or Aggressive Children and Youth
    • Responsiveness, with no waiting list
    • Accommodating people when they needed service
  • Over 40 presentations at International Conferences
  • Over 15 research studies
  • Over 360 practitioners, trained to recognize abusers and provide
    innovative and effective domestic abuse treatment.

Mandate For The Future
  • Readiness for change initiative for female victims of violence– a partnership with Calgary Counselling Centre, Homefront, University of Calgary Faculty of Social Work, Wheatland Shelter, Discovery House, RESOLVE
  • Continued research on the relationship between addictions and family violence
  • Increasing effective treatment through awareness; decreasing stigma of seeking help, accessing services early
  • Planned growth in voluntary clients coming in for family violence treatment
  • Engaging more women in the community, involving them in the treatment process with their spouse and participating in whole family healing
  • Understanding why a certain group of clients drop out of treatment – understanding their reasons, for effective treatment solutions of the future
  • Proactive work with men to change behaviours before domestic abuse escalates
  • Expand treatment for children and youth
