Congratulations to Carol Huynh, Olympian, Gold Medal winner, Canadian hero and Calgary Counselling Centre volunteer.  Carol is an active volunteer with our agency, helping us in the Nexen Call Centre since 2007.

Carol joins over 185 volunteers, who assist us in every department of our organization. The daily operation of the Centre relies heavily on volunteers. Hundreds of volunteers generously donate thousands of hours of their time and energy to the Centre. In 2007, 187 volunteers contributed 33,652.75 hours to the Centre.

From a volunteer Board of Directors, to volunteers who contribute to our counselling program (link), volunteers help us meet the ever increasing demand for our services. By providing time and effort, Calgary Counselling Centre volunteers help us increase capacity and keep operating costs down in a number of vital areas. Volunteers serve in the Nexen Call Centre (Intake), perform research and administrative duties and help ensure the success of special events.

Although only some of our volunteers are as well known as Carol, all of them are heroes.  They are some of the busiest people in the world and we're proud they make time to help Calgary Counselling Centre.

Intake Worker
Talking with an Intake Worker is the first contact a potential client has with the Calgary Counselling Centre. The Intake Worker gathers information, over the phone, which helps our Centre match the client with a suitable counsellor. The conversation covers demographic information, reasons why counselling is being sought, a brief medical history, and questions regarding concerns for alcohol/drug abuse, gambling, suicide and violence. Intake Workers must be patient, understanding and non judgmental. This is a day time position.  We are looking for a minimum commitment of three hours once a week, or three hours every two weeks for a three month period.

Please email intake@calgarycounselling.com or fax (265-8886) your resume to the attention of Jenny Hart, Intake/Volunteer Coordinator (Direct telephone line 691-5923). Potential volunteers will be contacted for an interview. Training plus orientation will be provided for both postings. Please note, a reference check and a criminal record check are required for all volunteer positions at the Centre.

Education and training has been a cornerstone of our organization since we opened our doors in 1962 (Link to ED & Train Page). Students that study and train at the Centre are the community’s leading professionals of tomorrow, and will be called on to meet the increasing counselling needs and challenges of the future.

In addition to the students enrolled in the Centre’s counselling program, the Centre provides opportunity for students of communications, marketing, research, and technology support to develop their skills and contribute to the daily operation of a growing organization.
