All about China, the person not the country

"At the end of a busy day, Client Services Administrator, China Marsh takes off her shoes. "Life is just more comfortable with no shoes on," she says.

“Visiting China” is a pun that never gets old at Calgary Counselling Centre. A vital part of our administrative team, our Client Services Administrator, China Marsh is most likely the last person a client would see before leaving the Centre.

“I love how many different people I get to meet and interact with – not just the clients but also the counsellors,” says China. “Everyone I meet comes from different backgrounds and has a different story. It’s a fascinating place and I feel like not much stays the same day after day.”

Calgary-born, China has lived in Calgary her entire life, attending public schools the whole way, earning a BFA from the University of Calgary in 2005. China came to work at Calgary Counselling Centre in March, 2007, after a number of administrative positions, including the role of Educational Program Director at the Calgary Spaceport (in the Calgary International Airport) – teaching kids about space.

China is one member of an amazing administrative team, who support our full time staff group of 25 and our student group of nearly 60.

What clients can appreciate is China acting as the lead on accepting and processing payments, while at the same time managing our busy switchboard and providing evening reception duties. What clients likely can’t see is China keeping our inventory of forms stocked, acting as our lead for the mail room and managing the Centre’s main e-mail account. She also manages to work with the Communications team at trade shows. She’s always busy, but China’s not acting when she admits she genuinely loves her job.

“I believe I can attribute most of my success to the fact that I honestly love the people I work with,” says China. “I am part of an organization of people working to do the best they can for the community around them. It makes for a fantastic working environment and makes my job that much more fun to do. It makes me very proud.”
