Cake and balloons would be festive at any annual event, especially when you’re celebrating for the fourth time. But, the event isn’t a four-year-old’s birthday party; Calgary Counselling Centre is attempting to make National Depression Screening Day a festive occasion on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008.
Provided free to Calgarians, National Depression Screening Day (NDSD) is a public service, providing education about symptoms of depression, while offering individuals the opportunity to be screened for depression with complete anonymity.
“Finding out symptoms you’re feeling could, in fact, be depression and are treatable could be a tremendous relief,” says Robbie Babins-Wagner, Calgary Counselling Centre CEO “and should give people a reason to celebrate.”
“Depression is treatable – our confidential screening service on National Depression Screening Day indicates to participants the presence or absence of symptoms and offers referral for further assessment. Soon, they could be on the road to recovery. Early treatment for depression generally results in a shorter treatment with positive results.”
The way to be screened is to access the test from www.calgarycounselling.com, where it will be available for 24 hours, starting at midnight on Oct. 9, 2008.
But if you’d prefer to take the test in person, Calgary Counselling Centre will be offering a slice of cake to people who visit us to take the confidential depression screening test at each of these great locations:
- Eau Claire Market (lunch time only)
- Market Mall
- Southcentre Mall
- Stephen Avenue Mall (lunch time only)
- Sunridge Mall
We’re also inviting corporate Calgary to celebrate with us. We’re encouraging companies in Calgary to get involved and offer a link to the test through their company intranet or e-mail system at work.
If your company would like to get involved – simply register online.
