Calgary's Bravest Men now a two-day affair

Al and Brett
Al Duerr and W. Brett Wilson, the 2008 Calgary's Bravest Men Ambassadors, look forward to announcing the 2009 Calgary's Bravest Man Award at the gala dinner on Oct. 23, 2008.

We’re changing the name, but not the amazing experience. For the past two years, “An Evening with Calgary’s Bravest Men” amazing gala event has inspired Calgary’s visionary business and community leaders to participate in helping to end domestic abuse in our city.

This year, the name is “Calgary’s Bravest Men”. We’re proud to report it’s blossoming beyond the gala on Oct. 23, 2008 at Calgary Petroleum Club. The buzz surrounding Justin Berry, our keynote speaker, has been so positive, we couldn’t limit the experience to just one night.

With sponsorship from Education Matters and a private funder, we’re now taking the event to the next level. On Oct. 24 (the morning after the gala), Justin will share his message about Internet safety with thousands of junior high school children across the province.

We have been fortunate enough to partner with Shaw TV, who will be recording and distributing the Calgary’s Bravest Men Youth Forum across the province and to their national partners, to reach as many students as possible and prompt them to think carefully about their own online activities.

Justin’s story is riveting: a young man’s experience with child pornography as a teenager. Lured by online predators who flattered the shy teenager, showering him with gifts and money, Justin soon found himself immersed in the world of child pornography - a five year nightmare for Berry. His compelling story will highlight his brave journey to break the cycle of abuse and his fight to end child exploitation on the Internet.

Tickets for the Calgary’s Bravest Men Oct. 23 gala are on sale now. If you would like more information about the event please visit www.calgarycounselling.com, or contact Stephanie Weidmann at 403.691.5904.
