Calgary Counselling Centre
urges you to “act NOW ”

act NOW

Calgary Counselling Centre, with the University of Calgary, is challenging Calgarians to act NOW on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 with the Walk for Wellness to help combat the stigma of mental illness.

For the first time in almost 30 years, His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama is visiting Calgary as the honoured guest of the University of Calgary. A spiritual leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, His Holiness is the keynote speaker for NOW – a three-day event and conference from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2009.

On Oct. 2 the event culminates with act NOW, a Day of Action which combines the Dalai Lama’s values of compassion, connectedness and community with a citywide volunteer initiative. Thousands of Calgarians will participate in the Day of Action through various neighbourhood projects, service initiatives, and events that bring citizens and students together. Stories and special events from the day will also be featured on CBC and Rogers Media.

Calgary Counselling Centre is on board as an official act NOW participant with our own Walk for Wellness to raise awareness for mental health. One in five people in Canada experiences mental illness and the Centre hopes to make this known through an innovative volunteer based viral marketing initiative.

We hope that with your help act NOW will become a legacy and an annual event in Calgary, as a catalyst for a lifetime of compassion and service to community. To be part of this monumental event or for more information please email or call Kathleen Bell at Calgary Counselling Centre, 403.265.4980.
