River Spirit Golf Club

2010 Olympic hopeful Cheryl Bernard was auctioned off to start the day. She went on to help "Team Cochran" win second place.

In the days leading up to the 3rd Annual River Spirit Golf Club Charity Golf Classic benefitting Calgary Counselling Centre, staff at CCC crossed their fingers, hoping the nice weather would hold out for the June 4 fundraiser. Mother Nature was kind, it was a perfect day for a round of golf, made even more perfect with the addition of Cheryl Bernard, Olympic hopeful.

While she may be more comfortable sending a granite rock down a sheet of ice, we were privileged to have skip Cheryl Bernard, 2010 Olympic hopeful, put herself on the auction block to play with one lucky team through the tournament. Her enthusiasm and athleticism benefitted her team, helping them come in second overall.

“It was a great tournament this year,” said Dale Green, co-chair of the golf tournament. “We had amazing weather and a strong turnout; it was fun day learning more about the Centre while playing a round of golf.”

The “Journey of a Thousand Yards” included activities presented as part of the tournament’s support of the Children of Divorce (CofD) program, with golfers learning more about the program and the impact divorce has on families.

The event raised over $32,000 for the CofD program, helping to make a difference for children and families experiencing divorce or separation.

The CofD program is designed to help parents and children adjust to the numerous changes that occur as a result of separation or divorce. Our program takes the unique approach of including both children and their parents in the therapeutic process.
