Huddle together and get tickets to this year’s Calgary's Bravest Men gala event

Pinball Clemons

CFL legend Michael "Pinball" Clemons is the keynote speaker at this year's Calgary's Bravest Men event on Nov. 26.

The Grey Cup celebration is coming to Calgary and Calgary Counselling Centre has the home field advantage. Canadian Football League (CFL) legend Michael “Pinball” Clemons is the keynote speaker for our event on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009.

Say “Pinball” to any Canadian and they will likely think of one man - an icon of sporting excellence, community leadership and personal integrity. One of Canada’s best known athletes, former Toronto Argonaut Michael Clemons’ real legacy may well lie with the thousands of people he has inspired, both on and off the field.

Away from the game, Michael has an undying commitment to community —especially to youth —that is simply unparalleled. He lends his name and time to countless high-profile causes, including the Argos’ Stop the Violence campaign, which encourages the active participation of communities, schools and government in educating youth and curbing gun violence.

On Nov. 26, 2009, at Calgary’s Bravest Men Gala, Clemons will engage audiences with his own unforgettable, emotional experience with abuse and the bravery involved in leadership. Abuse, be it physical, emotional or sexual, doesn’t discriminate between genders. Michael will share what true courage is – the courage inside every person to be strong, make change and be a leader.

With a natural ability for both sports and scholastics, Pinball has been a leader throughout his life. Known to be the shortest player on the team, Clemons - at only 5 feet 6 inches - had a spectacular CFL career. His diminutive size and extraordinary balance allowed him to bounce between defensive players much like a ball inside a pinball machine. Through his 12 year CFL football career, he obliterated records and won Grey Cups with the Toronto Argonauts, as both a player and their head coach. Clemons was also the Argos’ CEO and is now their Vice Chair.

Calgary Counselling Centre invites you to join us for a spectacular evening featuring a gourmet dinner, Michael’s keynote speech and presentation of the 2009 Calgary’s Bravest Man award. Funds raised from the evening will go to support the Wilson Centre for Domestic Abuse Studies and Calgary Counselling Centre’s Domestic Abuse Training Bursary.

Through community leadership, public education and action, Calgary’s Bravest Men event aims to increase community awareness of the issue of domestic abuse and inspire Calgarians – especially men – to be brave, by taking a leadership role to stop domestic abuse and its destructive impact on our community. The gala is one piece in a two-day presentation, encouraging Calgarians to help Calgary Counselling Centre stop the cycle of abuse.
