Great donors...Great results

Donors are critical to the success of Calgary Counselling Centre (CCC) programs that change lives and, at times, save lives. With a heartfelt thanks to all who have given in the last few months of 2008, donors are making a significant impact in the lives of thousands of people in our community through programs such as the following:

  • The Rotary Club of South Calgary and The Harry and Martha Cohen Foundation each recently supported counselling services for our Eating Disorders program, helping us get to the issues which trigger disordered eating.
  • ING has graciously supported us once again, with a donation to the Children of Divorce group program, to ensure children’s emotional needs are met in their transition to new family dynamics.
  • CCC’s Adolescent depression program helps one of the highest risk groups for depression – teenagers. The Burns Memorial Fund has now been a financial contributor to this important program for two years.
  • CCC has some of the best treatment outcomes in North America for adult depression, thanks to the JC Anderson Legacy Fund at The Calgary Foundation. With professional counselling, many are able to turn depression around subsequently bettering countless lives.
  • W. Brett Wilson, The Alberta Law Foundation, and The United Way of Calgary and Area have each generously supported the research we conduct at the Wilson Centre for Domestic Abuse Studies, working to build a society free from domestic abuse.
  • Responsible Choices for Children and Parents is a group therapy program for children who are abusive or aggressive at home or at school. The RBC Foundation and Golder Associates are among those who have given generously to build capacity in this program.
  • Over 1,600 junior high school students and their teachers attended the Calgary’s Bravest Men Youth Education Forum — our first-ever educational offering for youth, held in October, 2008. Justin Berry and the Calgary Police Service spoke about being safe on the Internet. Thanks to generous support by SHAW, Education Matters, United Way, FCSS, an anonymous donor, Al Duerr, W. Brett Wilson and Dave Kelly for making this riveting presentation a reality. (see story)
  • E-Therapy is being developed to better meet the counselling needs of a younger generation, as well as giving access to counselling for people who live in other parts of Alberta. TELUS has provided a grant through its Community Grants Program to kick-start this important initiative.
  • Thanks to contributions from Nexen and the attendees of Calgary’s Bravest Men gala event, CCC is training the counsellors of the future. Resident bursaries ensure our post-graduate students receive financial support, enabling them to continue their clinical studies at CCC.
