Staff fall retreat

Full time staff members at the Centre are lucky to experience a day of team building at Easter Seals Camp Horizon this fall. On Sept. 4, when most people were planning their long weekend, our team navigated heights and working together to solve problems. The event demonstrated what a terrific team we have at the Centre. It also showed us each other’s personalities as people, not just professionals.

The experience was a trade of services between Calgary Counselling Centre and the Camp Horizon staff. For the past two years, Calgary Counselling Centre has been running a grief counselling session for the staff of Easter Seals Camp Horizon. Every year, the camp hosts hundreds of children with severe medical problems, giving them a chance to interact with others who are facing the same challenges, but also allowing them to just be kids for a few weeks.

The reality of the situation is that at some point the counsellors will have to deal with the death of a child. Our sessions helped the leaders at Camp Horizon work with their staff and deal with the trauma and grief, when they experienced loss.
