It’s now doctor Robbie Babins-Wagner

Calgary Counselling Centre's board, staff and volunteers congratulate Robbie Babins-Wagner, CEO for achieving her PhD in Social Work.

Calgary Counselling Centre’s CEO, Robbie Babins-Wagner has successfully defended her Social Work PhD thesis at the University of Calgary.  On Aug. 29, 2011, Robbie added “Dr.” to her business cards.

With the generous opportunity to use Calgary Counselling Centre’s own counselling outcome data, Robbie’s thesis was,”Understanding the Predictors of Counselling Outcomes“.   Her research looked at trends for Calgary Counselling Centre clients and whether those trends are indicative of their success in treatment.

“It was important for me to make my doctoral thesis benefit the work I do at the Centre,” says Robbie. “I looked at a number of key stats – from the initial request the client made, to the first scores on their OQ-45 distress measure, to their relationship measurement with their counsellor."

“This study focused on understanding the relative contributions of predictor variables to counselling outcomes among clients in routine community-based treatment. The trends I was able to find will benefit the Centre’s counsellors considerably, to make treatment gains our clients.”

Robbie’s celebration will be official on Nov. 10 at the University of Calgary’s graduation ceremony.
