Golf tournament moves

We’ve hit the cowboy trail and are travelling 44 kilometres south for this year’s Calgary Counselling Centre Charity Classic. Now in its fifth year, the golf tournament will be held on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011 (1:30 p.m.) at the prestigious Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club - their championship Hawk course.

“This year’s Calgary Counselling Centre Charity Classic will have all of the elements you love,” says Dale Green, Co-Chair. “We have a great day of golf, wonderful auction items, fantastic volunteers, the same amazing master of ceremonies and terrific food.  The only change you should notice is where we will be playing.”

Every year at the tournament, participants learn about Calgary Counselling Centre's programming. Throughout the event there are activities and trivia on the course educating golfers about the Centre’s approach to helping people with their mental health.

“We balance fun interactive activities with key information about the Centre, to give you an idea of what impact Calgary Counselling Centre makes in our city,” says Barry Cochran, Co-Chair. “Combining golf and education helps us tell golfers about our priority programs, in a fun setting. The activities are timed throughout the tournament to occur on the Par 3 holes, to keep play moving.”

There is an incentive to register soon.  The new location, combined with our unique format will ensure we sell out earlier than usual this year. The early bird rate of $250 ends on June 30; starting July 1st registration will be $275.

“Everyone in Calgary at some time in their lives will be directly or indirectly impacted by a mental health challenge,” says Dale.  “That means each member of a golf foursome will be impacted by a family member, friend or co-worker who experiences a mental health problem – perhaps even one of the golfers themselves.”

Started in 2006, the tournament was hosted at the beautiful River Spirit Golf Club. Since its inception, we’ve hosted 452 new and repeat golfers and have raised $279,500 in direct and residual donations. We thank River Spirit Golf Club owners, staff and members for making our tournament such a success.
