Robbie Babins-Wagner wins the 2011 Westbury Legacy Award

Robbie Babins-Wagner is the second winner of the prestigious Westbury Legacy Award

Calgary Counselling Centre is proud to announce Robbie Babins-Wagner, Chief Executive Officer has been selected the 2011 recipient of the Westbury Legacy Award.

Robbie, as the winner, receives a $25,000 research grant from the Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research.  This grant will be applied to the Centre’s research program.  We are looking forward to telling you about the research efforts this will fuel.

“It’s so gratifying for Robbie to be recognized,” says Gillian Basford, Calgary Counselling Centre’s Board Chair, “her significant contribution to research and mentorship has bettered the quality of life of those in the community.”

A strong candidate for the award, Robbie is a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Social Work and will earn her PhD from the University of Calgary in the fall.  In the past 31 years, Robbie has mentored hundreds of social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy students and thousands of clinicians through dedicated leadership, research presentation and one-on-one mentoring opportunities. As well, throughout her career she has been involved with numerous research initiatives focusing on domestic abuse and counselling in community based practice.

“When I found out I was nominated, I was truly honoured and humbled,” says Robbie. “It is such a wonderful opportunity for the Centre and an endorsement of our work in the community. I was just buzzing with excitement when I found out the news that I’d won.”

Established in 2009, the Award recognizes individuals in Alberta who have demonstrated commitment to the intellectual and professional growth of individuals working in the areas of child, family and community research and individuals who have contributed to the advancement of research and work in this area.
