Meet our staff - Kim Busch, Group Counselling Coordinator
Participating in our clients' journeys of change is the work we're known for. We have the opportunity to help new graduates make their own journey of change – from student to professional counsellor. One particular journey we're pretty proud of is Kim Busch, Group Counselling Coordinator.
Last fall, Kim took a new role at the Centre. In addition to supervising students and seeing clients, Kim now oversees the group experience at CCC to ensure consistancy. She will streamline administrative processes and has a mandate to strategically grow the Centre's programs. This year Kim plans to implement a new training program for facilitators and launch a new marriage preparation workshop.
Her journey didn't start immediately at the Centre. Before Kim became a counsellor, she worked for the City of Calgary in Economic Development. Kim made the move to become a counsellor and in 2006 she began at Calgary Counselling Centre as an intern. Moving from intern, to resident, to staff – Kim will add "Group Counselling Coordinator" to her resume.
Kim believes group counselling is powerful and research backs her up. Group counselling in combination with individual counselling creates better outcomes.
"I feel privileged to be part of people's lives and to experience change with them," says Kim. "Calgary Counselling Centre creates a caring environment – for clients and for staff."
Recently, she was instrumental in creating the newly revised depression group, 'Mastering your Moods', for Calgarians experiencing depression and anxiety. The new action-oriented group offers a broader curriculum which accommodates more clients.
"Trying the strategies in group helps clients incorporate them in their lives," says Kim, "Action creates change. Simply talking about a strategy isn't as effective with clients."
When Kim isn't at the Centre, she enjoys travelling with her two teenage girls.
