CCC congratulates the United Way of Calgary and Area
The results are in. The United Way of Calgary and Area raised an inspirational 2010 campaign total of $51.6M with the support from donors, volunteers and partnering agencies such as Calgary Counselling Centre. This is an increase of $2.1M over the 2009 results. Well done, Calgary!
CCC contributed to the phenomenal effort by raising and contributing $5,554.40 to the campaign. Staff, our students, contractors and volunteers gave to our campaign and gave through individual donations and fun events like a bake sale, silent auction, jelly bean guess and dressing in jeans (a bit hit).
Calgary Counselling Centre's partnership with the United Way began in 1980. Today, their annual donation represents 18 per cent of our bottom line. United Way is CCC's largest donor – contributing to our general counselling program, education and training and our family violence program.
The United Way's initiative impacts the community in the following ways:
- Influencing public attitudes, systems and policy
- Focusing on underlying causes of social issues
- Strengthening the network of services and the capacity of nonprofits and the community
- Engaging the community's resources: financial, influence, time, knowledge and action
Our partnership with the United Way helps CCC reach more Calgarians and gives individuals and families the opportunity to access counselling, where they likely might not afford the opportunity. Due to United Way's contribution to the Centre, CCC is able to offer our sliding scale of affordable services and operate without a waiting list.
