Sexual abuse is one of the most damaging traumas any person can
experience.
But, even though the trauma is great and deeply rooted,
individuals can and do heal. The goal of Calgary Counselling Centre’s
Sexual Abuse Survivors group program is to give clients
the confidence and understanding they need to resolve the experience
of sexual abuse.
The Centre offers two group programs for survivors of sexual abuse,
one for women and one for men.
The goal of these two groups is to provide stabilization
and relief from the trauma related to childhood sexual abuse and
molestation so that memories and flashbacks are no longer intrusive
and debilitating.
This group program comprises of 14 weekly, 2-hour sessions.
Although issues specific to gender are addressed in each respective group,
both aim to help the sexual abuse survivor attain the following objectives:
- understanding of sexual identity
- develop inner resources
- increase intimacy
- increase social competency
- improve self-pacing
- decrease substance abuse
- develop a positive, practical and healthy outlook for the future
Two professional counsellors,
one male and one female, facilitate each Sexual Abuse Survivors
group. The counsellors use therapy to help clients gain understanding of their abuse experience, and,
ultimately, end the trauma of sexual abuse.
All clients must participate in individual counselling prior to beginning the group program.
Accepptance in the group is not automatic and is at the discretion of the counsellor.

Programs are offered on a regular basis throughout the year.
Fees for the Centre’s programs
(with the exception of the
Marriage Preparation Program)
are based on a sliding fee scale, according to the client’s total
gross family income.
Your fee will be established during the initial telephone call with our Intake Office.
However, fees can be discussed with your counsellor during the first session.
Fees are payable each session by cash, Visa, Mastercard, or Interac.
